Here to steal Motorola Moto E’s budget thunder is Unite 2 A106 from Micromax, launched yesterday. Priced at Rs. 6,999, this colourful phone rivals the Moto E not only in price but just about everything else.

Both are quad/qual core, dual SIM, with memory expandable to 32GB, 5MP rear camera and run the latest Android OS v4.4.2 (KitKat) and come in vibrant colours. Only, the Unite 2 is slightly bigger with a touchscreen of 4.7 inches compared to the 4.3 inches of the Moto E.

What may be a winner for Micromax, however, is the 21-language support, what the company claims is a first for any phone in the world – and from where the budget phone gets its name. Users can navigate the phone in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, Marathi, Nepali, Bodo, Dogri, Konkani, Kashmiri, Maithili, Manipuri, Sanskrit, Sindhi.

“India is a diverse country and language at times can act as a barrier for people to seamlessly communicate on their phones. Therefore, we firmly believe that support for local languages on phones will perhaps be the next big driver for day to day phone transactions, internet usage and online content consumption in India given that most of the population does not use English as their primary language,” said Mr. Shubhodip Pal, CMO, Micromax. “The aim”, he says, is local customization “to serve the unique needs of Indian consumers across multiple markets.”

The phone also offers voice search, Google Drive and Hangouts for video calls.

Micromax Unite 2 will be available in – grey, white, red and green and is already on sale in the Indian market.
