Nokia unveiled the Windows 8 range of Nokia Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820 at simultaneous events In New York and Finland, and the company is calling their next gen Lumia “the most innovative smartphone in the world.” Both Lumias incorporate the new “Super Sensitive Touch” that gives you seamless touchscreen handling even if you have long nails or are wearing gloves. Nokia Lumia 920 Design-wise, the 920 looks a lot like its predecessor the Lumia 900 but in a variety of shades – yellow, red and gray. The company in its press release called this their flagship phone, after its previous Lumia phones met with a tepid response. With the 920, the company is betting on innovations to their PureView imaging. Floating Camera Nokia is keeping pace with the fact that iPhones and the Galaxies are increasingly being used to upload images to Facebook and Twitter. With its advanced floating lens technology and an aperture of F/2.0, the Nokia Lumia 920 is geared to take in five times more light than competing smartphones without using flash, making it one of the better phone camera for low-light shooting. The floating technology – which means its camera lens are held by springs — auto-corrects problems caused by hand movements, the chances of which are high in phone camera handling. The Lumia 920 has an F/2.0 aperture and uses image stabilization and tiny springs to get that “floating” camera lens to hold the image steady “Low light photography has been a weak point for smartphones. Nokia has addressed this with PureView to create real customer value. By applying its rich expertise in imaging Nokia has created a best of breed experience for everyday use,” said Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices. Nokia City Lens The Nokia Lumia 920 also sports the Nokia City Lens, the latest addition to the Nokia location suite. By pointing the camera at a city street, City Lens overlays information about restaurants, shops, hotels and more on the surfaces of buildings. The press release informs, “Nokia City Lens is the start of a new augmented reality experience that also enhances Nokia Maps, making it possible to move between maps view and augmented reality view to help people check their direction and surroundings. Along with enhancements to Nokia Drive and Nokia Transport, the Nokia location suite of services represents the most comprehensive, integrated mapping experience of any smartphone.” The Nokia Lumia 920 comes in yellow, red, grey, white and black.
