My friends always claim they won’t ever be caught dead without some dark kajal rimming their eyelids. From everyday use to grand occasions, kajal has always been a popular make-up accessory for women of all ages. So it isn’t surprising to see so many different brands release their eye pencils in the market.

However, with such a large range available, even the simple task of buying a kajal has become a very daunting prospect. Should you buy one that promises intense colour or one that stays intact for hours? And do these kajals even live up to their claims?

To make matters a tad easier, I decided to try out two popular favourites and pit them against each other – Lakme Eyeconic Kajal and Maybelline Colossal Kajal. And here’s what I found:

COLOUR

Among the two, Maybelline Colossal is, by a very small margin, the darker one. The kajal’s deep black colour pigments give an intense colour, making the applied line appear slightly sharper than the one made by the Eyeconic Kajal. Moreover, Colossal dries up much faster because of which the entire process becomes real quick and smooth.

RANGE

Along with black, Lakme Eyeconic is available in striking colours of blue, brown, grey, white and green, whereas Maybelline Colossal Kajal is limited to just black. So if you like to experiment, you’ll appreciate the range of looks that Eyeconic offers.

LONGEVITY

Lakme Eyeconic Kajal stays put on the eyelids easily for a period of nine hours, while Maybelline Colossal Kajal starts fading after five to six hours itself, despite its twelve-hour claim.

TEXTURE

Lakme Eyeconic’s creamy texture ensures that the glide is smooth, and the groove looks neat and seamless. In comparison, Maybelline Colossal is neither that smooth, nor does it give that glossy finish.

COMFORT

While both claim to be waterproof and smudge-proof, Lakme Eyeconic’s formula is much more comfortable on the skin. The minerals it is composed of are both soothing and refreshing to the eye.

VERDICT

Lakme Eyeconic easily comes out as the winner between the two. Since both cost the exact same amount, Eyeconic becomes much more desirable since it gives a better finish than Maybelline Colossal Kajal.
